# A family plan with InCaseMap: prepared in 30 minutes

News · How to plan

It is best to make a plan while things are calm. With InCaseMap it takes about half an hour: mark the important places, find the nearest shelters and water, and agree on a meeting point with your family.

Prepared by the [InCaseMap team](https://incasemap.com/en/about) · Updated 15 October 2026

> **In short:** open the InCaseMap map and save your home, work, school and relatives’ addresses. Near each place, find the nearest shelter (filters “open 24/7” and “accessible”), a water source and a pharmacy. Create a family group with a meeting point, turn on alerts on your phone and open InCaseMap once in advance while online so every place stays on your phone when the connection drops.

## 1. Save the important places (5 min)

Open the map at [app.incasemap.com](https://app.incasemap.com) and save the places where your family spends most of its time: home, work, school or nursery, grandparents’ or other relatives’ homes. Danger rarely catches you at home, so the plan should cover all of these places.

## 2. Find the nearest shelters (10 min)

- Near each saved place, turn on the “Shelters” and “KAS shelters” layers.
- Use the “Open 24/7” and “Accessible to people with disabilities” filters if older people or people with reduced mobility are in your family.
- Pick two shelters for each place — in case one is locked or full.
- At the weekend, walk to the nearest one: where the entrance is and how many minutes it takes.

If the shelter is far away, know the safest place in the building — [where to shelter at home](https://incasemap.com/en/where-to-shelter-at-home).

## 3. Water, pharmacies and help (5 min)

- The “Taps, wells and springs” layer: whether the water is drinkable is shown on the place card.
- The nearest pharmacies, hospitals, police and fire stations.
- The “Places to avoid” layer: whether there are sites near your home that could be targets in a war. The list is incomplete.

## 4. Family group and meeting point (5 min)

Create a [family group](https://incasemap.com/en/family-group) and invite your relatives. During an alert, everyone reports “I’m safe” or “I need help” with one tap and can share their location. Mark a meeting point — the place everyone goes if the network goes down. Two points are best: one near home and one outside the city.

## 5. Alerts and working offline (5 min)

- Turn on alerts on your phone: air raids, storms, wind, fires and roads.
- Write down the LRT radio frequency for your area — the “Public radio” layer. When the internet is down, official information is broadcast on the radio.
- Open InCaseMap once in advance while online: every place stays on your phone and is available when the connection drops.

## Every six months

- Check that the shelters and water sources are still the same.
- Refresh your [72-hour kit](https://incasemap.com/en/72-hour-preparedness): water, food, medicines, batteries.
- Go over the address, phone numbers and meeting point with your children — [talking to children about danger](https://incasemap.com/en/talking-to-children-about-danger).

## Frequently asked questions

### How do I quickly find the nearest shelter?

Open the InCaseMap map, turn on the “Shelters” and “KAS shelters” layers and look at the ones closest to you. Filters can show only those open around the clock or accessible to people with disabilities.

### Does InCaseMap work offline?

Every place on the map is saved on your phone and stays available when the connection drops.

### What is a family meeting point?

A place agreed in advance where every family member goes if the phone network goes down. In the InCaseMap family group you can mark it on the map for everyone.

### How long does it take to make a plan?

About 30 minutes: save the places, find shelters, water and pharmacies, create a family group and turn on alerts.
