Head injury and concussion: when to call 112, why to rest and how to watch for 24 hours. Signs and steps based on ERC 2025 and IFRC guidelines.

Prepared by the [InCaseMap team](https://incasemap.com/en/about) · Steps translated from the Lithuanian text checked 5 October 2026 · Updated 16 October 2026

> **In short:** After a blow to the head, rest — no sport and no work. Call 112 if the person lost consciousness even briefly, vomits more than once, behaves oddly, has a seizure, a limb is weak, balance or vision is affected, or blood or clear fluid comes from the nose or ears. Even if everything seems fine, watch for 24 hours: signs can appear later. All 38 first-aid instructions, based on state-institution and international guidelines (Lithuanian Ministry of Health, NVSC, VVKT, ERC, IFRC), are in the InCaseMap app and work offline — together with a map of hospitals, pharmacies and shelters.

## What to do

1. After a blow to the head – no sport and no work, rest.
2. Serious injury – ask them not to move the head and neck; if they are lying down, support the head with your hands.
3. Call 112 if they lost consciousness even briefly, vomit more than once, behave oddly or speak unclearly, have a seizure, a limb is numb or weak, balance is affected, they see double or blurred or light hurts, blood or clear fluid comes from the nose, ears or mouth, or a severe headache does not pass in 2 hours even after painkillers.
4. Only a bump, a mild headache or nausea – rest and watch.
5. Even if everything seems fine, watch for 24 hours: signs can appear later.
6. A suspected concussion must be assessed by a doctor.

**First aid, a map and community — in one app.** 38 situations based on state-institution and international guidelines, hospitals, pharmacies and shelters on the map, a family group and local communities. Call 112 first and do what the operator says — their instructions come before this page; do not hang up until they tell you to. This page does not replace first-aid training.
