Family group: know your loved ones are safe

In an emergency the most important question is whether your loved ones are safe. In a family group the answer is visible within seconds, without calls or long messages.

Prepared by the InCaseMap team Updated

In short: a family and friends group is a private chat that only invited people can see. When an air raid alert is announced, everyone reports “I'm safe” or “I need help” with one tap, can share their location and say which shelter they are heading to. The group also shows members’ last known location, medical cards and the shelters each person has saved. You create a group yourself or join one with an invite code. The group is part of the InCaseMap map, so the meeting point and the nearest shelters are in one place.

What you can do in a group

  • Danger — to everyone at once. Air raid and natural hazard alerts come straight into the group.
  • Family chat. Message each other in the app, in a private group only invited people can see.
  • “I'm safe” or “I need help”. One button, and everyone sees your status.
  • Location. See where each member is when they share their location, and which shelter they are heading to.
  • Last known location. If a phone switched off or lost signal, you see where the person was last.
  • Medical cards. See each other’s medical cards — key information is at hand if help is needed.
  • Saved shelters. See which shelters each family member has saved, so you know where to look for them.
  • A shared meeting point. The family's shelters and meeting place — on everyone's map.

How to create a group

  1. Open the “Communities” section and, under “Family and friends”, tap “Create group”.
  2. Invite your loved ones: they join with an invite code (“I have an invite code”).
  3. Together, mark the family's shelters and meeting place.

Agree in advance

The group works best when the plan is agreed in calm times: where each family member goes, who picks up the children, where you meet if the phone network goes down. More in the guide “72-hour preparedness”.

Frequently asked questions

Who can see the family group?

Only the people you invite. The group is private: neither communities nor other users can see it.

How do I join a family group?

Ask a group member for the invite code and, under “Family and friends”, choose “I have an invite code”.

Is the “I'm safe” message sent without internet?

The group chat needs the internet. If there is no connection, follow the plan and meeting place you agreed in advance, and send the message as soon as you have a connection again.

Can I see where my family is?

Yes. In the family group you see where each member is when they share their location. If a phone is switched off or has no signal, you see their last known location.

What will I see if a family member’s phone switches off?

Their last known location and which shelters they have saved — so you know where to look first.

Who can see my medical card?

The members of your family group — if help is needed, they will know the key information. The group is private: communities and other users cannot see it.
