1. Choose a border crossing
The InCaseMap map has 45 border crossings: 20 in Lithuania, 6 in Latvia and 19 in Poland. The colour shows their status: blue — to Latvia and Poland, orange — open crossings to Belarus and Kaliningrad, red — closed.
- Pick two crossings — in case one has a queue or is closed.
- Before you set off, check the public cameras at the border and the “Road disruptions” layer.
- Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Poland are in the Schengen area, but carry a passport or ID card for every member of the family, children included.
Which crossings are open — border crossings.
2. Fuel and rest on the road
- Petrol stations: 773 in Lithuania, 583 in Latvia and 8,393 in Poland. Leave with a full tank — in a crisis there are queues at petrol stations.
- The map shows 416 rest areas along Polish motorways with toilets, fuel, a café or overnight stay.
- Plan a stop every 2–3 hours, especially with children or pets.
3. Help abroad
- Lithuanian embassy and consulates: 1 in Latvia and 12 in Poland — if you lose your passport or get into trouble.
- Hospitals: 108 in Latvia and 1,043 in Poland; pharmacies: 927 and 12,739.
- The emergency number across the EU is 112.
4. Money and staying informed
- Poland uses the złoty, Latvia the euro. ATMs on the map: 858 in Latvia and 9,585 in Poland. Carry some cash too.
- Write down public radio frequencies along the route: LRT radio, Latvijas Radio 1 and Polskie Radio Jedynka — the “Public radio” layer.
- Before the trip, open InCaseMap once while online: every place stays on your phone and works offline.
5. Agree as a family
- Mark a family meeting point abroad too — in case you travel in several cars or get separated.
- In the family group everyone sees each other’s “I’m safe” or “I need help” status.
- With a pet you need a microchip, an EU pet passport and a rabies vaccination — pets in an emergency.
The full plan for leaving — leaving safely.
