Air raid alert in Lithuania: is one on now and how to check quickly

Sirens sounding or got a message? Here is how to quickly check whether an air raid alert has been announced, and what to do.

Prepared by the InCaseMap team Updated 26 October 2026

In short: The most reliable way to know whether an air raid alert is on right now is official sources: an alert to your mobile phone, sirens and LRT radio and television. The InCaseMap app sends air raid alerts to your phone and shows the nearest shelters and KAS shelters on the map; alerts are checked every minute and need the internet. The red level means an air raid: go to a shelter or safe place without delay and stay there until the white level is announced. InCaseMap is a free map that shows shelters, KAS shelters, evacuation points, sirens, water, hospitals and pharmacies in Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Poland in one window; it works offline too.

How to check whether there is an air raid alert now

  • Alert to your mobile phone — it arrives over the mobile network, so it does not need the internet.
  • LRT radio and TV — official information on what to do. Radio works without internet too.
  • Sirens — a signal you can hear outdoors and in buildings.
  • InCaseMap — an air raid alert on your phone and the nearest shelters and KAS shelters on the map. Alerts are checked every minute; they need the internet.
  • Official websites and accounts — check only official sources, e.g. lt72.lt.

InCaseMap does not replace official alerts: messages from the authorities, sirens and LRT remain the main sources.

Likely air raid, air raid, no danger: what the levels mean

  • Yellow — a likely air raid. Plan a safe place or shelter and follow further messages.
  • Red — air raid. Hurry to a shelter or safe place without delay, look after your loved ones.
  • Yellow after red — stay in the safe place or shelter until the message that the danger is over.
  • White — no danger. You can leave safe places and shelters.

The end of each level is announced in a separate message. Until you receive a new one, follow the instructions of the last one.

Sirens sounding: danger or a test?

“Attention everyone” is a pulsing siren sound lasting 3 minutes: about 9 seconds of sound, about 6 seconds of pause. When you hear it, turn on LRT radio or television without delay and listen to the message — it will tell you what is happening.

Warning systems are tested periodically, and scheduled tests are announced in advance. If the message says “Warning system test”, stay calm and tell your loved ones it is a test. If you are not sure, check LRT or official announcements.
